I have had this condition for almost three years now. I am a teacher and on my feet a lot. Initially I started running and felt numbness in my feet followed by heel pain which worsened until I went to the doctor. I wore a boot for 2 months then custom orthotics. I was gradually able to run again up to five miles four times a week with little pain. Then I took the summer off of running. When I started again the pain was terrible back to cortisone shots and the boot again for 6 weeks. Finally he recommended shock wave therapy. After lots of boot time I was back on orthotics. The pain was the worst it's ever been and still is. My insurance company won't pay for therapy which I was going to try. I had to pay cash for thfor SWT. Now I can barely walk barefoot still on my feet teaching. I can't run which is very depressing and I've started gaining weight. The whole experience feels like a death sentence and my doctor seemed very angry when I told him the SWT didn't work. He was baffled. Why has no one done an MRI so that they can see the tendon to know what's it's done. I do know I have a hefty bone spur on both heels and he said an unusually high arch.
