Cortizone shot on the first visit to the podiatrist helped relieve the pain so I could stand and walk without wincing. Rolling a frozen bottle of water under my foot seems to calm things down pretty well. Not going barefoot is hard but seems to be a good idea so I have slippers to wear around the house. Taking and anti-inflammatory/pain medicine (Naprosyn) twice a day for 30 days calmed down the plantar fascitis pain as well as my arthritis pain. Unfortunately as soon as I got off of it all the pain started coming back and is almost as bad as when I started treatment. The night boot makes my foot hurt worse so I usually have to take it off so I can get some sleep. I got a deep tissue massage on my foot and that seemed to break things up and make it easier to do my stretches and self massage on my foot. Doing the morning stretch exercises before getting out of the bed in the morning was really helping not have that sharp pain on the first step in the morning. Now that the pain is back up it is not working. The orthotic inserts I got from my podiatrist were not a good fit so I tried Dr. Scholls for plantar fascitis. They don't irritate my arch like the other ones but don't really help the pain. I have tried several different shoes recommended for plantar fascitis (Vionic flip flops, crocs for work) but haven't found a pair that really helps with the pain. When I do self foot massage I can feel things breaking up so I am hoping that is helping the healing process.
