Back pain on and off over the years. Suddenly it got worse and continued to worsen till I could not stand straight or bear weight on right leg. I work 12 hrs shifts as a nurse. My MD put me off work and gave corticosteroids. I was sent to a surgeon, but when I improved, he said he would rather wait to do surgery since I was doing well and the surgery could actually make me worse. That was several years ago. My back pain gets bad at times, especially in winter and with storms. And the hip and leg pain go with it. I have found that if I can keep walking and moving and keep my posture straight, that seems to help. I hope to work a couple more years, till retirement age. Walking is the best exercise I can do. I sometimes do Mackenzie exercises to try to keep my back flexible. But sometimes they seem to make me hurt more. I use anti inflammatory meds, no narcotics.
