I have both lumbar and cervical problems. At my worst, I had two injections 6 months apart for lumbar herniated disc under anesthesia and that worked the best to relieve the severe pain. In addition, I went for physical therapy. Since that time (about 5 years ago), I have been seeing a Chiropractor twice a month and received traction on my neck and a 1/2 hour massage. I also went for physical therapy for my neck in between this time period. I recently joined a gym to try to strengthen my muscles, which has helped somewhat. But my neck pain has increased and I had an x-ray and will be seeing the doctor who gave me the injections 5 years ago to see what he recommends. I would like to avoid surgery at all costs and will continue to do everything I can to do so. Pain medications really don't help much at all. I have a home TENS machine which does give me some relief also. And massage really helps me a lot.
