Treatment Ratings

    Postural Modifications, Gokhale Method

After some low back pain episodes over the prior year, I had a severe disc herniation at L4-L5 and L5-S1, resulting in tingling and numbness down my left leg and sometimes foot drag. I went to physicians at Rush and Northwestern Hospitals, who both prescribed PT, which was excrutiating (Mackenzie-based exercises). I saw a chiropractor; he would not treat me "too much trauma." Acupunture had limited pain relief. I found the 8-Steps to a Pain Free Back book at the library after reading a SF Chronicle article online about the Gokhale Method. By following instructions in the book, I found that I was able to sit comfortably for an extended period. I flew to CA to take the Foundations Course and after a year or so of continuous and gradual improvement with sleep, strength and all sort of other physical improvements, I was completely pain free. It's been 7 years since then and I am stronger than ever, have fantastic posture and am completely pain free in a very active lifestyle!
