I suffered with chronic episodes of lower back pain, sciatica and SI joint instability from the age of 21. X-ray showed no pathology. I would have episodes of acute muscle spasm every 2-3 months. Osteopathy or Chiropractic would usually get me out of trouble, immediately or a few days following treatment, but the problems always recurred. Aged 43 I radically changed my yoga practice and stopped stretching, and stopped alternating spinal flexion and extension as the mainstay of the approach. This gave 50% improvement within weeks. Learning the Gokhale Method, aged 49, meant that I learned to apply similar principles, and much more, to my daily posture and activities. I would say I am now 95% fit and improving all the time. I continue to have a chiropractic check every 3 months or so.
