I have been dealing with chronic low back pain for 9 years now. Have tried just about everything other than surgery...nothing helps the back pain. Had a wonderful Doctor that performed nerve ablation which helped sciatic pain greatly...unfortunately he lost his contract with my insurance so I can no longer see him. My only treatment right now is going to a pain clinic where all they do is hand out prescriptions, they never even examine you...not even on first visit (though I am sure they are billing insurance for a comprehensive exam each time I go there)...and my previous doctor had a medication plan that actually worked for me. The place I go to now has completely eliminated the treatment I was receiving and cut my medication dose in half. With my previous Doctor I could function and tolerate low back I am in constant pain. I just recently moved and all the heavy lifting of furniture and boxes has made it much worse. After explaining this to the APRN instead of increasing the dose of pain medication, she decreased it by another 5 mg...used to take 20 mg Roxicodone four times a day and Nucenta twice a down to only 10 mg Roxidodone four times a day and in constant pain! I still refuse to have surgery! I worked for an orthopedic spine surgeon for 18 years that had multiple surgeries on his own back...I learned from his experience and will not have fusion surgery until it is my last resort. Currently working with insurance to find a good Doctor that can perform nerve ablation so that I can get some relief...instead of a pill factory that is doing nothing to help me feel better!
