I am retired, but generally very active. Standing longer than a few minutes still brings up severe sciatic pain in my left leg. Walking is somewhat better, but also limited to about 20 minutes. What is new is that sometimes my legs feel awkward when I tried walking, especially in the morning. Later in the day, they don't feel weird but pain in my hip make me limb. None of the treatments have relieved the pain thus far. Before the pain started in May of 2017 I led a most active life with all the physical activity I liked to do, including crosscountry skiing and hiking. I no longer practice the Gokhale method since the anteverted position causes more pain than a tucked position.
My acupunctionist also suggested this week I stretch my back into a tucked position by squatting and getting into a bow position.
I recently started learning about the Sarno Method, I received an extensive program to follow, which makes much sense. I wish I had heard about that long before because it is the most holistic viewpoint and approach that I know about. I have high hopes that this will help me get over the chronic pain, in conjunction with the exercises given by my PT. I have followed Dr.Sarno's perception that most of the chronic pain is caused by muscular tension. I also got into a lot of other theories that explain that being in a beta state too much causes the flight or fight response to come up which causes more pain. So I do much more daily meditation and also have started EFT which seem to be helpful to lower the pain. I am more aware of what stresses me which also seems to be helpful. I like the pt exercises and do them every morning and sometimes also in the evening.
