As a result of being in constant pain I cannot work. I cannot sit or stand for more than 30 minutes at a time. Living with chronic pain as so many of us do because we have degenerative disc disease up and down the entire spine causes in cases like mine surgery after surgery. I’ve had seven low back surgeries as well as the two on my neck. I know this is not the politically correct answer these days but narcotics and stretches are the only way I can have some functionality in my life. One of the hardest side effects I have to suffer through is depression. The depression can be just as hard if not harder to overcome each day. And then there is the anxiety that comes along with it’s good buddy depression. It is a horrible, never ending loop that has no end. I’ve tried physical therapy and regular therapy to learn to cope with all of this through meditation and even hypnotism and many other things. Meditation I believe is important, not easy but effective. I’ve tried Yoga with some relief. For the most part I can be described as a Caucasian woman in her fifties who suffers from severe chronic pain caused by degenerative disc disease and nerve damage, who suffers from depression and anxiety. That unfortunately is how I am described by many doctors. Bless the doctors who are trying to find ways to help people such as myself. All I’ve been told for the last thirty years is that I will ALWAYS have spine problems and issues that come with them. I’ve also been told that I will always need narcotics just to function. I understand why everyone is so afraid of narcotics, but please don’t take away something that works for those who don’t abuse it without first giving us a substitute that actually works. Gabapentin does NOT work at all for more people than it does help.
