      Physical Therapy, Surgery

I had an Austin Bunionectomy 16 months ago. I was starting to experience constant pain during workouts so I knew it was time to do something about it. The surgery is fairly difficult and my recovery time was a little longer than expected and included physical therapy. It was about 3-4 months before I tried running on it. Today I have no more pain in my foot. However, I have hardly any downward movement and about 60 degrees upward movement in my toe. I still have the screw in place since it doesnt give me any discomfort, but sounds like a fairly easy procedure to take it out. I have no discomfort during runs/exercising. The important thing to realize is that your bunions are probably caused by not having proper alignment in your foot and/or poor arch support, so I would recommend getting custom orthotics after the surgery to avoid the problem from happening again. Hope this helps!
