I had this a few times before. I just rested for about a week. Tried taping but it didn't help. I found out that the most helpful (for me) to avoid shin splints were the following: (1) adequate stretching of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles (using 2 different lunge-like routines --> simple but hard to explain here; but you can search online how it is done); and (2) strengthening of the soleus muscles(by simply raising myself on tiptoes several times).

I suffered 10 weeks with shin splints, dumb i know since i should have rested them, one thing i did was tape my arches up for longer runs and after a week of rest i have done 25 minutes of hill training every week and they seem to be getting better. Also massage, stretching and ice work wonders.

I don't know why it works but I had shin splits for along time. Taping the arches of my feet fixed it.

KT tape! Surprised no one mentioned this yet. My boyfriend ran track for years and swears by it. If you buy it from the pharmacy, it will have instructions of how to apply for shin splints.

Rest is your best option.
But if you must workout, compression is what helped me out. Began with just using athletic tape, then decided to buy a sleeve and it eventually went away.
I've never used Kinesiology Tape, but it seems simpler and just as effective as what I mentioned earlier.xAFC Shin Splints

I'm just recently recovering from terrible shin splints myself. The only real way to fully heal them ASAP is restIng from this overuse injury. How I worked through mine 1-stop doing what hurts the most 2-lacrosse ball roll the shit outta the shins where it hurts 3-ice after all activity (training/work) 4-taping techniques. Google it
