I've been battling chronic achilles tendinosis for about a year and a half, I shut down running for a full year. What I've found is PT (particularly ASTEM treatment and dry needling) have helped immensely.
Also, not to rag on the stick but I've found the trigger point grid roller to be much more effective. Every morning I heat pat the area, roll it out for a few and then get a good stretch in the calf/ankle.
