One day woke up and my husband’s ankle was in pain. We let it be for about 3-4 days and it just gotten worse. We rest it and iced it and it didn’t improve. We went to see orthopaedic doctor, he injected an inflamtory Med needle and each day he took Arcoxia 120mg and he was better as he was able to walk. He was diagnosed Insertional Achilles Tendinosis. As we thought he was getting better but if he walks around 5000 steps for 2 days in a row, the pain will come again. He will take the Arcoxia for about 5 days and he will be ok again. This just keeps happening for the last 3 months. When he is walking, he can actually feel/hear the micro tear on his tendon. No idea what to do to get better as all the doctors just told us to Rest...

not only did I have pain when I woke up and started walking but also after sitting down for a few minutes and my ankle would swell significantly whenever I was standing in my feet. I felt like I was walking on a stick or lump.
I was sick in December and proscribed short dose prednisone which made the pain and swelling go away within a day however the pain came back after a week. I began having trouble with balance and was bumping into things and felt like my foot was giving out. After the mri showed the Achilles and extensor tendons were involved with moderate damage and tendonosis to the distal 1/3 of the Achilles I was sent to orthopedic surgeon who bless him said wearing the boot and splint and sticking to strict tendon rest would do the same thing as the surgery for the calf muscle. He put me on a 17 day prednisone taper and ordered me to do a tall walking boot when I am up and night splint when Im sleeping. I was told only take them off to shower and change. Im not supposed to walk more than 300 consecutive feet with the boot and may use crutches for longer distances. I must not be on my foot for more than 20 minutes at a time and cant lift more than 30 pounds. I also need to continue rice method. I am on week 5 of 6 and will be starting the next phase in one week for physical therapy and to progress into heel lift orthotic shoes.
The pain again went away with the prednisone and has not come back. The light stretch of the splint and the immobilization from the boot have made a big difference in my calf. It is very soft compared to my other which is rather tight. So far Im quite impressed with how good Im feeling and hope which my continued strict adherence that I am cured.Charity Lynne Achilles Tendinitis
